Drive letter assignment hierarchy:

Primary channel drives get letters before secondary ones.
Master drives get letters before slaves.
Primary partitions get letters before extended ones.

Example1:

Primary EIDE channle
  Master Drive
     Primary partition C:
     Extended partition E:
  Slave Drive
     Primary partition D:
     Extended partition F:

Example 2:

Primary EIDE channle
  Master Drive
     Primary partition C:
     Extended partition G:
  Slave Drive
     Primary partition D:
     Extended partition H:
     Extended partition I:

Secondary EIDE channle
   Master Drive
     Primary partition E:
     Extended partition J:
  Slave Drive
     Primary partition F:
     Extended partition K:

So, to answer your question, set up your new drive with only extended
partition(s).
