My reply to David Gillett
MB specs:

82430VX PCIset, P55-TV ISA OCI with onboard PCI IDE and Super Multi -I/O
Award BIOS extension v. 1.0A

Regarding the PS2 connector, it was connected by the short cable to CN1, red
wire to pin 1, as per the manual instructions. Note that I am saying "was".
I have removed it since, and I plugged the mouse back to the serial port. I
have tried to boot up with and without the mouse in the serial or in the PS2
ports.

I do not have a J10. JP2 is the keyboard clock select, pin 1 is free and 2
and 3 are shortened. J1 is the IrDA/ASK IR connector. How do I attach an IR
sensor to this? Anyhow, the 5 pins are free.

The above was my reply to David:

>> Okay, let's make sure I'm looking at the right board. Your PS/2
socket on the bracket is connected by a short cable to J10, with the
colored edge of the cable toward the back of the case. And the
jumper at JP2 is over the two pins closest to the back of the case,
right?
The connector at J1 is for an IrDA infra-red interface. It would
be easy to connect the mouse port to there instead of J10; J10 is
between the AT keyboard connector and the USB connector.

Now that I'm looking at the right board, it's hard to see how any
of this could impair your keyboard functionality. I'd try your
keyboard in another system -- and if that works, then back in this
one -- before rushing out to replace keyboard or motherboard.<<
