Michi,

I have seen this with the STB Veleocity 128 & Velocity 3D cards when
the system is upgraded from Win95, Win95a or Win95b to Win98...

Windows98 seems to have a "bug" for using the drivers supplied by
STB for these cards. The work around I found for this is to let
Win98 load the S3 Virge generic driver. It does not seem to noticably
depreciate the speed of the card, though you loose use of the special
software features for the card. I experienced this problem with
Windows98 build 1691, beta... and I have reported the "bug" to
Microsoft.

So, I am wondering if your friend is using Windows95 and you are
using WIndows98???

If you are... enter the system in "safe mode," remove the video
driver in Device Manager, restart the system and accept the video
driver that Windows assignes to the video card. Be sure to report
the "bug" to Microsoft's Windows98 beta team.

ps. It helps to add as much information as possible when asking
questions, such as the operating system.
