My son has a one year old home built machine, 200 MHz AMD MMX, with a
Seagate 4.2 M hard drive, a Caviar 3.2 M hard drive, an IDE tape backup and
IDE Zip drive.
Before he installed the Caviar, he was just using the 4.2 Seagate with Win
95 OSR2. He had a hard drive crash, and stated that he was having trouble
reformatting it. He was away at school at the time, so I told him to
install the new Caviar and restore his files from his backup ( he keeps
good backups!), and I would help him when he returned home.
Using either PartitionMagic or Win94 Fdisk, we can Partiton the hard drive
easily. However with either PartitionMagic or Win95 format (even from a
Win95 bootable floppy), we get error message as soon as format starts:
Wrong media or Track 0 bad.
Any suggestions on which way to go from here?
