The best suggestion I would have is to get in touch with the Associated Press and see if they'll forward your requests to the reporter who wrote the story.  That reporter is likely to have some contact method of the subject written about.

Otherwise you might contact the U.S. State Department and see if they'd be willing to help via contacts in country.
