He has two devices claiming to be located at the address normally
reserved for COM2:.
The most likely scenario is that his motherboard provides two serial
ports as COM1: and COM2:, and he has installed an internal modem also
configured as COM2:.
The simplest fix is to go into the CMOS setup and disable COM2:.
(This will only disable the port on the motherboard, so it will no
longer conflict with the modem.)
