        Assuming you have an anit-virus program installed, (McAfee perhaps),
that program is checking your floppy drive to make sure an infected disk
isn't in there.  Yes, it's a bit annoying, but it might save you in the
future.

        As for disabling the check, you might be able to, depending on which
on you're using.

        Of course, if you're absolutely sure you have *no* anti-virus
running, then plz ignore this ;)
