Wendy W. posted this statement in a summary:
NIDDM:non-insulin dependent (adult onset) has no celiacs correlation.
<snip>
This area of study is not well known. I recently attended a diabetes
seminar, and asked the Endocronoligist Keynote speaker what is the
incidence of Type 2, or non-insulin dependent diabetics and Celiac
Sprue. His answer- that having one auto immune disease opens the door
for others.
One other item- I was diagnosed w/ Sprue first then, diabetes within a
year. I will say that the high carbohydrates of the rice & corn based diet
*open the door* to diabetes for people who are prone to the disease- by
eating too many carbohydrates, and potential weight/ cholesterol gain.
