Dear listmembers,
My apologies for taking so long to summarize, but the past weeks
have been rather difficult. My thanks to all who responded to my
request for information. It was duly passed on to France. By the way,
my French friend also passed it on to the French Celiac Association,
along with the information on NYC that I have compiled. Very
informally, we are exchanging information that we hope will someday
prove of use to celiac travellers, both in France and the United
States.
Recommended places in California:
1- Everyone recommended Trader Joe's, which even has a GF list.
Their website:
http://www.traderjoes.com
2- Another excellent chain of stores is Whole Foods. Their website is:
http://www.wholefoods.com
3- In San Francisco, go to
Dolores Park Cafe
501 Dolores Street, corner of 18th Street
They have GF biscotti and muffins from G!Foods.
for Japanese food in San Francisco, try
Kabuto's
5116 Geary Boulevard, corner of 15th Avenue.
Telephone: 415-752-5652
or for Vietnamese, in San Francisco's Chinatown, where they have
rice noodle soup and spring rolls in rice paper, try
Golden Flower
667 Jackson Street, between Grant and Kearney.
4-In Buena Park, Cuban Pete's restaurant. The celiac who
recommended it hasn't tried it, but checked out the menu on the web,
and thought it sounded intriguingly GF:

5- In Sonoma, about 50 miles from San Francisco, look for Food
for Thought stores. Here are three of their locations:
- 1181 Yulupa Avenue (almost on corner of Yulupa and Hoen),
Santa Rosa. Telephone: 707-546-8121
- 6910 McKinley, Sebastopol. 707-762-9352
- 621 East Washington Avenue, Petaluma. 707-762-9352.
6- In Los Angeles, Wolfgang Puck's Oba'Chine Sushi and Satay
Bar. Try the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and the Pad Thai with Jumbo
Shrimp.
Also IN&OUT Burgers, for protein burgers wrapped in lettuce
and good French fries.
7- In Eureka, there is a pleasant inn. This last came via Tracey,
who tells me that the woman who runs it has a daughter on a
gluten-free diet.
Weaver's Inn
For reservations: 707-443-8119
Again, thank you all.
