Thanks to all 39 who responded.
Four wished me to do a summary.
Most had had a small bowel biopsy called
an endoscopy through the throat.
Some also had a colonoscopy.
Others had only skin biopsies with stitches for DH .
They took a week to heal and no real pain.
All said not to worry, that the anxiety
and waiting were the worst part.
Most were done at hospital as out patient.
Some were done in doctor's office.
One said she had a respite from her three
young children after she had a valium and
demerol ' cocktail '.
Another drug mentioned frequently was versed.
Someone called it 'conscious-sedate '.
You are put into a twilight state but are not ' right out '.
Some got an anti-nausea drug, and most
had a painkiller spray in the throat which tasted
awful, to halt the gag reflex.
One said her friend got a new amnesia type drug
and he woke up waiting for the procedure to happen.
Some said they wanted to watch.  While some did,
most fell asleep.
Those with drugs could not drive for 24 hours and
felt groggy for a while.
Some mentioned gas.
Nearly all mentioned a sore throat afterwards.
One mentioned a bland diet with a list of nos for a while
afterwards.
Time mentioned was 5 minutes to twenty minutes to
one hour.
A few brave souls did it without anesthetic  - one with her
relaxation tapes.  Some said it was unpleasant, some said
it was not that bad.
All felt it was beneficial whether positive or not.
One biopsy discovered no celiac disease, but a large
hiatial hernia and gastritis.
Best summary was that it was not pleasant but you don't
need it every day.
