I experimented with a vegetarian diet several years ago. As a direct result
of having consumed vastly increased amounts of dairy products (and due to
my atopic genetic history) I developed dairy-allergy-induced rheumatoid
arthritis. I dropped dairy completely and eventually became allergic to
soy. I then rethought the importance of a vegetarian diet for me, and
decided that I could not remain healthy on such a restricted diet,
especially considering my busy lifestyle. I eventually developed a lactose
intolerance and a respiratory form of dairy allergy, so I could not even
consider having small amounts of dairy in my diet. I have now been on a
dairy-free diet for several years, and am much healthier for it. My son was
born with an anaphylactic allergy to milk.
