Mark,

If you're running windows 95, I can't imagine that you haven't already
crashed it once or twice, but I don't know. I will tell you what I know,
and if it isn't news, just ignore it. Okay?

1. When you bring up JFW anything in Win 95, you have to wait for it to
finish it's oration at the beginning of windows before you move the cursor,
or it will lock up.

2. Once it has locked up, there is no recourse that I know of except to
shut off the computer, crashing it.

3. Following a crash, windows 95 will not wake up until you run SCANDISK.
Fifteen or twenty seconds into the boot process the disk will stop spinning
and a message appears on the screen saying something like'

'windows was not properly shut down; some files may be damaged. Run
scandisk...- Unless you have a screen reader running in DOS, already
loaded, this message will not be spoken. Hitting enter will start
Scandisk. Sometimes that's enough. Sometimes, though, it keeps trying to
scan not only 'C' but 'a'. Of course A is empty, so it tells you that and
asks what to do next. but it isn't speaking so this message is just as
invisible as the previous one was. Typing the letter 's' tells it to skip
'a' and go on its merry way. Then windows 95 comes up okay. I load JAWS
(the DOS version) in my otherwise Rem'd-out windows 95 autoexec.bat so I
can hear those messages.

I suppose I should ask if it's Windows that doesn't come up, or JAWS that
doesn't speak in windows. If the latter, none of this information is
relevant-maybe.

FI, JFW3.0 seems to be working really well with Excel. I'm way slow at it
but that's my ignorance, not the screen reader.

Good luck

Ann
