I think these players should have text to speech ability, have a way to
download audio or text materials and have variable speed capability.

The Digital Talking Book Standards Committee of the National
Information Standards Organization (NISO) is seeking public
comment on a draft document describing the features envisioned for
the next generation of talking books for blind and physically
handicapped readers. The document "Digital Talking Book Features
