Jane,
that's OK about all the questions, I was just about to ask a question of
the list members that would have required me to post most of this info
anyway.
I am sensitive to dairy and alcohol (I experience much the same symptoms
with wine as I do with dairy - probably the histamines and the additives
that are known to cause depression).
I don't know about the rest - dairy is the only one I've really noticed
an association with.
I'm not even sure where gluten comes from - is it wheat?
I do eat eggs. My mum has experienced terrible food allergies but she
is slowly overcoming them. I do get excema but the only thing I've been
able to relate that to is hot weather.
What my question is....
I've always just presumed I was lactose intolerant, probably because
that is the term most commonly bandied about when talking about dairy
allergies. But from what I have learnt on this list I don't have the
symptoms of lactose intolerance.
I definitely do not experience the bloating, diarrhoea, or cramps as
have been described here.
I do experience the feeling like I am getting a cold (I think it was
referred to here as rhinitis - kind of excessive mucous production
[sorry about the gory details]), sometimes my face, especially eyes and
nose get quite itchy, and then there is the depression and tearfulness.
Could this be an allergy to milk protein instead??
I have learnt a lot from this list already and it would be great to be
able to pinpoint this allergy more accurately.
On another topic - a few of you have spoken about the problems of eating
pizza. Is it only the cheese on pizza that is a problem or is the base
usually made with milk or butter? I know this is probably obvious but
if it is only the cheese - I always order mine with no cheese. It tastes
just as good, you just have to be careful about the toppings not
dropping off. : ^ )
