To No-Milk Woman
Thank you for your support! I have been off of dairy (as well as wheat and
cane sugar) for about 9 months, my husband for about 5 months and my kids
(off of dairy and limited wheat and sugar) for about 1 month. My husband
and I do fine without it, partly because I about live in the kitchen
anymore exploring and trying new ways to make old recipes and learning new
recipes. My kids are a bit more reluctant (ages 13, 11, 8 and 5). They're
used to Rice Dream on their cereal now, and they like Rice Dream ice cream.
They plead for a chocolate shake from McDonalds every now and then but I
say no. I know I can make a milk free shake at home sometime but they
always forget to ask later so I don't bring it up. Wheat free cooking is
the biggest challenge for the kids to accept. They are VERY picky eaters.
I just remind myself that they complained about my "old" cooking just as
much as they complain about the "new" cooking, so what's the difference?
Atleast this way maybe it's not too late to instill some healthy knowledge
into their little heads about eating habits. I have been making some very
successful Christmas cookie recipes that the kids really like so I am
making progress. I enjoy cooking and baking so that helps. I just wish it
weren't so time consuming.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Denise
