In the early 80's I was sent out to Indiana to work on the George Rogers Clark
Memorial. A building that I had never even seen a picture of. It took us two
days to get there from Brooklyn driving two trucks with all our gear. I was
very excited to get an opportunity to supervise a project at a National Park.
The drawings I had were a reduced set. When we got to the site I got out in
the south parking lot and walked north, taking the dwgs. with me. I walked up
to the monument, and around the monument, and across the street and continued
north. Vincennes is a small town. I was confused that I could not find the
memorial and doubled-back. The truck driver, who had staid behind, wanted to
know where I had gone. I told him I could not find the building. He had more
sense than I had and told me the memorial was right in front of me. At first I
did not believe him as, looking at the reduced set of dwgs. the building in
front of me looked too large. As well, I was convinced that the company would
not send me out with responsibility to work on such a large building.
