It is not true that you need to have a certain level of carbs to "avoid
pulling protein out of the muscles," just check the eskimos. One does need
to eat something more than pure protein, and that is mostly fat of one kind
or another on this diet. Of course, within the guidlines of this diet, one
can eat a fair amount of carbohydrate. I think that it isn't carbohydrate
that is strictly limited, just that which "cannot be procured with a sharp
stick, and eaten raw if necessary."
What does pull protein out of muscles is starvation, ie. going for long
periods without eating.
