We have discussed the most helpful ways for celiacs to communicate with
manufacturers and other people that we deal with. Now, how about a discussion
of safe ways to vent the frustrations that we sometimes feel because of the
diet, about the attitudes of some people, and about the uneducated responses
that we get.
The challenge of following a celiac diet, especially raising a celiac child,
calls for a great deal of effort and produces ongoing frustrations. When
these situations arise where can we safely vent them? Although the attitude
we have when we face a challenge will help to lessen its impact, we all must
vent sometime. Each of us needs a person (good friend, mate, other celiac),
place (support group meeting), or thing (journal) where we can vent without
harm to ourselves, our loved one, or our group (celiacs). Support groups or
chat groups are a good place to vent as long they don't become nonproductive
"bitch sessions." Sharing other avenues that have helped you to quell the
frustrations that you feel would benefit all of us? I'll pass the soapbox to
