Hello, everybody. My name is Peter Seymour. I am a new subscriber and this
is my first posting:

Regarding Ph.D. Gardener's grant application, I would need more
information before making a judgement. It seems to me that:

1. He had the smarts and experience to know the importance of correct
formating.

2. If he were unable to comply because of his vision, he was able to
supervise somebody else's handling of his document.

3. If a sighted assistant goofed, he still could have had the foresight to
have fail-safe systems, or back-up proof readers.

If he neither knew the importance of proper formatting, or didn't
supervise or hire good help, or if he didn't have a corrective system in
place, it could be that he is not worthy of the grant. Perhaps he was not
careful enough but he should be forgiven.

It may very well be that, if he were able to see the document, the mistake
wouldn't have happened. But, just because he can't see does not provide an
aliby.

"It's not fair officer. I couldn't see the traffic light." is not an
excuse. We head out knowing that we can't see it and rely on other means.
If we can't rely on those means and are ready to use blindness as an
aliby, perhaps we should stay indoors.
