Bryan : My flight leaves wed. but someone I very much want you to meet is my
dear friend and mentor Ian Cramb. Ian is author of the book "Art of the Stone
Mason" I very much want him next fall to lecture. He is a 5th generation
master mason from Scotland. He w as flown over from Scotland in the 50 s to
work on the nations capital and set the star that every president since Truman
has taken the oath on.His great grandfathers stone tools are displayed at the
Smithsonian; and Ian has worked on jobs to many to mention, but critical to
your enquiry; is his stories of those that have gone before us like the Scot
mason who built the Cloisters in New York...call him..610-588-5044 or write
Cramb 573 Fairview Ave; Bangor Pa. 10813...you will like this man very
much..ps he is a friend of bob watt in canada....another great sourse of
stories is the engineer John Walsh who was the master builder of the Cathedral
for 15 yrs John built 13 skyscrappers; before he became the master builder and
can tell you (us ) stories of craftsmen he knew going back to the crysler
building and beyond. John lives quietly in Brooklyn has a 5 yr.old adopt
chineese girl; I would very much like to see him involved...call him...718
965..0538...Im in favor of stories from the past...but these guys are gone
in the next two decades...carpe diem....my regards to the group..Im still in
favor of the "off campus" stone masons ball .".to raise funds.. cheers Michael
Davidson PS I will be visiting some German and French Stonemason friends I
have worked with and will let them know what we are up to.. they are trainers
in their own countries.
