I encourage RIS listeners to support the reading service financially and
to show appreciation for these long-time readers. Your gift to RIS is
modest compared to cable TV, cell phone, or Internet provider. There will
also be a RIS walkathon in October.

                  RADIO INFORMATION SERVICE AWARDS DINNER

                             September 15, 1998

We would like to alert you to a special event being sponsored by Radio
Information Service (RIS), a non-profit Pittsburgh broadcast facility
which uses an FM radio subcarrier to broadcast current printed
information (e.g., daily newspapers) to blind people.

RIS will present P. J. Maloney of KQV and WQED TV 13 with a public
service award on Tuesday September 15th at a ceremony to be held at
the Sheraton Station Square. The evening will include a special salute
to P.J. as well as acknowledgment of 10- and 20-year RIS veteran
   volunteers.

These awards will be preceded by a cash bar at 5:00 p.m. and dinner
   starting at 6:00 p.m.

This is a great chance to help honor RIS volunteers as well as to
learn about RIS, a unique and important Pittsburgh radio station that
has been helping blind individuals be more independent for 23 years!

The dinner is $30 and reservations should be made by calling RIS
   412/488-3944 prior to September 11, 1998.
