Often I can prevent many of the objectionable or off topic posts from
going to the list and deal with the thread continuation privately, but I
can't catch them all every time.

As an aid to alert you to a thread or a post that looks as if it is
straying from our goals, I will post a message such as this with
'!STOPPER in the subject line and ask that everyone think twice about
continuing discussion on a topic that is not keeping in accordance with
our mandate.
