Nigeria Can Export Technology

P.M. News (Lagos)
August 9, 1999
By Philipson Abah

Lagos - Nigeria has been described as having enough resources and manpower
to produce technology for export only if the government would encourage
industrialists by putting in place policies that will shore up the naira
value.

Speaking with PM News recently at a business exhibition in Ikeja, the Sales
Officer of Addis Engineering Limited, Mr. Olaseni Johnson said that since
the company could produce made in Nigeria motorbikes, yam pounder, electric
cooking pots, grinding mill, rice shelter and harder and other machines
which had hitherto been imported into this country, the country could as
well produce vehicles.

He explained that the quality products of the company are already being
exported to Italy, India and some other countries.

On the durability, Mr. Johnson said that all the items produced by the
company have been proved to be more durable than those imported from
overseas. He further added that the machines made in Nigeria are better,
given the fact that they could be serviced and repaired accordingly.

He noted that his company uses 100% local raw material to fabricate their
machines except for the engines they have to import.

Addis Engineering company produces a variety of machines for the cottage
industries and home appliances. Most of the products were on display at the
exhibition for members of the public to appreciate.
