Speech Machines Launches CyberTranscriber; First And Only Speech
Recognition Service to Deliver Verbatim

Documents Over The Internet Offers Free Trials

Documents Over The Internet Offers Free Trials

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 1997--Speech Machines, the
innovative developer of computerized speech recognition applications and
services, today announced CyberTranscriber, the world's first and only
Internet-based automatic transcription service that delivers verbatim
accuracy.

`CyberTranscriber breaks down all the barriers to using speech
recognition,` said Michael von Grey, president and CEO. `Users simply call
CyberTranscriber's toll-free number and record any dictation, or they can
also use a microphone attached to their PCs. Speech Machines' processing
center generates a transcription and sends it back via e-mail. And with
our free client software, users can access Microsoft Word for Windows(R) to
review their documents interactively by moving the cursor in
synchronization with the original audio dictation.` Making Voice
Recognition Work -- Cost, Ease, Quality

CyberTranscriber is a major step forward in ease-of-use and low startup
cost because it uses technologies that nearly all business people already
have and are comfortable with -- telephones, cell phones, e-mail and
Microsoft Word. Other products that are desktop-based can have significant
startup expenses beyond the cost of the software. Also, some users find
the desktop products unnatural to use because they require wearing a
special headset microphone.

CyberTranscriber is unique in that it requires no `training time` to adapt
its speech recognizer to a user's voice. In contrast, desktop systems
require lengthy training periods before they perform optimally.

`CyberTranscriber fundamentally changes document creation,` said Henry
Hyde-Thomson, founder, chairman and chief technology officer of Speech
Machines. `CyberTranscriber unlocks the potential of speech recognition
because it puts the capability in users' hands when and where they need it
most -- when they are away from their keyboards.` Pricing and Availability

CyberTranscriber is available now. Users register for the service by
visiting Speech Machines' web site at www.speechmachines.com, where they
can also take advantage of a free trial. Once registered, users may either
use any phone or cell phone to call Speech Machines' toll-free number
1-888-I-SPEAK-IT to dictate documents, or record their dictations into
their PCs using microphones and Speech Machines' free upload application.
Documents are transcribed and routed by the next business day. Three-hour
turnaround is also available. Each page costs just $3.50 for standard
service. The one-time registration fee is $29.95, although this has been
waived for the first 1,000 users. The $9.95 per month subscription
entitles users to $14 worth of free transcription. About Speech Machines
