Mark-- I would really pay attention to the numbers on my internal
workings: most particularly to blood pressure, pulse rate, lipid profile,
percentage body fat, and stool quality/quantity. If you feel good,
don't get sick too often, have nice skin and hair, a BP of <130/<85, an
a.m. resting pulse below 60, a "low" percentage body fat (for males, 14 or
less), a good lipid profile (good hdl/ldl ratio, low total cholesterol
-- the debates on this listserv notwithstanding, and a low trigylceride
level), and free-flowing stool, then you're must be doing something right
dietarily speaking (and probably in many other areas of your lifestyle).
You also have to choose a diet that you can be at peace with-- morally,
and in terms of cost, quality, preparation/shopping time, availability,
emotional wherewithal (if you spend all day obsessing on your diet, it's
the wrong one for you), and the degree to which you do or do not ostracize
yourself from others (and your comfort level thereof). Cheers!
