My four year old started preschool two weeks ago. He has been tested. I had
the doctor's report on it. I had the form they asked to be filled out by the
doctor as well, which had an allergy section on which my doctor had written
"dairy". And I filled out NUMEROUS forms and wrote "dairy allergy" as often
as I could. On 'Meet the Teacher Day', I went in and told the teacher, and
told the teacher's assisitant. I said I would send in a snack every day and
to please just give him that. Fruit juices were OK, as were plain fruit.
Day 2: They gave him chocolate chip cookies! ????? Thankfully his reactions
are getting milder as he grows older, and he is not anaphalatic. But but
BUT!!! I think on this occasion I had the biggest reaction. They told me "he
said he could eat them"??? I bake dairy free ccc at home and THOSE he can
eat, but they gave him shop bought ones with dairy! They expected a 4 year
old to know?
AGGGGGGGGggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
So testing or not, doctor's forms or not, you still have to do battle on a
regular basis, and deal with people who either couldn't care less or think
they know it all. Good luck!
