I have just gotten to read all the recent posts on medications which may
contain dairy derivatives, and have a few thoughts to add.

When I found our current pediatrician, a reasonable and thoughtful
fellow, he did say that I had to be careful; that there *are* liquid
meds for kids that could contain dairy. He said that the antibiotics
that can't be taken with dairy foods should be safe (one would think
so!) but that others might not...he promised to check this for me with
each med he prescribed, but also asked me to check with the pharmacist,
because, as with food, the filler/texture and other ingredients can
change. We have been doubly blessed; we have needed no prescriptions in
quite a long time, AND we (as others have also said) have a small,
hometown pharmacy, owned by two young women (YAY!) pharmacists who are
"refugees" from a large chain. They are careful about remembering all
our various allergies, and have been helpful with over the counter
recommendations, too. And if that weren't wonderful enough, one of the
women is very interested in homeopathic and herbal remedies, and has
been taking training for pharmacists in those subjects.
(BEWARE: regarding homeopathy..I have posted this before, but since I
mention homeopathy, I must say it again...homeopathic preparations that
are readily available are almost always made from a lactose base. For
ones that are not, you can order from several companies, or directly
from: Washington Homeopathic in Maryland, or Hannamann Homeopathic. If
anyone wants more info on that, you can email me directly.)
