It can be derived from milk, but also from other sources - typically from
corn. And it is far removed from both lactose and milk proteins (I
believe). For those who (must) religiously avoid all dairy-derived
products, only consume this one if the product is kosher pareve or the
manufacturer is sure that it is not dairy-derived.
