Friends, I once called the Minute-Maid company, the brand of
calcium-fortified OJ we use (frozen concentrate), and they assured me it
was a fruit-based source. Also, there is a kosher symbol (the K in a
triangle) with no D, DE or M after it, so it is Parve. I don't know the
"K in the triangle" organization; I have been researching these groups
lately to learn more about their various tolerance of errors,
contamination, and ingredient interpretation. I will report more on
this to the list as soon as I can, but for now, I'll just say that I
have been very impressed with the attention to detail and dedication to
this whole process the kashrut organizations have.
I believe this product is safe, but try the 800 number for minute-maid
(don't have it now, but I got it from 1-800 555-1212), and ask them
directly; they were very gracious, helpful and knowledgeable on the
phone.
Good luck, Dale Robin Lockman
