At the time Paleopeople roamed the earth, the air had an oxygen content
almost twice what it is today.  Few bacteria can survive in that kind of
atmosphere, since most are killed on contact with oxygen.  This might have
had an effect on the number, severity, and types of infections paleoman
had.  I would imagine, though, that he either got well or died.   Not many
more options.
