I think You have to decide yourself what to eat and not to, there can be
no such thing as "legal" as the idea is to eat only what humans are
"designed" to eat, and no one knows that exactly.

Many foods are seasonal, as for example seeds, and so cant have been eaten
all the time but perhaps sometimes in large amounts.
