There are some tuna farms in South Australia. At least, the tuna are caught
from the wild and then fattened in cages. Each cage holds about 1000
southern bluefin tuna for up to 9 months, and they are fed on a diet of
pilchards.
A couple of years ago, something went seriously wrong, and 75,000 tuna
died. Apparently, freak conditions stirred up the silt and excreta which
were sitting on the sea floor under the cages, clogging their gills and
suffocating them.
