I check out all "natural flavoring" on ingredient lists by calling the
food companies. Some companies will not divulge the actual ingredient
(they are protecting their recipe), but they will acknowledge whether it
contains milk products or soy products (my daughter's allergies). I
usually begin by identifying myself as the mother of a food allergic
child. I also confirm that the product contains absolutely no milk or
soy.

My experience calling food companies has been very positive with the
exception of Kraft. I have called Kraft on two different occaisons and
found the representatives not very cooperative. They have tried to
discount the "natural flavoring" by saying if milk was in the product it
would be listed. I have found differently in many products. Both milk
and soy deriviatives are "natural" and can be found in the natural
flavorings. Now my 11-yr-old daughter even says--"Oh natural flavoring
and it's a Kraft--forget it." I now avoid Kraft foods if at all
possible.
