H. J. Heinz Company 1998 Second Quarter report announces that Heinz Pet
Products is pioneering a new line of dog foods formulated for specific breeds.
A quote from Dr. Richard Shields in this report states "Digestibility and the
utilization of ingredients are major issues. "For example. Irish setters are
intolerant to gluten. Just like people with gluten intolerance, they have to
stay away from wheat, barley, or oats" (no mention of rye) The new line is
called Nature's Recipe being marketed through breeders, pet superstores and
distributors. This is great news for Irish setters and gf owners. Hmn,
wonder how it tastes? Couldn't help but think - airline food, backpacking,
international travel food, diet food, stocking stuffers. Couldn't resist.
P.S. - no financial interest in this company and don't own an Irish setter -
just a 22 pound cat.
Mary
