Hi everyone,
I am the celiac in my family. Some people think I may be a little
preoccupied with celiac disease and its underdiagnosis, but the people who
know me well, especially members of my family, think of me as obsessed with
it :-) They are all wrong, of course. I am the balanced one. The rest of
the world just does not think about celiac disease often enough. Anyway,
I'd like to ask for some help.
My step-daughter has recently developed an erosion under her skin. It is
apparently called a lipodystrophy. The fatty tissue seems to be undergoing
a slow erosion, leaving a growing, oval depression in the skin on her side.
I accompanied her to see the specialist. He thinks it is autoimmune. There
is a process destroying the adipose tissue just under the skin.
After running a Medline search, I see that diabetics sometimes get these
from injecting insulin. She is not a diabetic.
I think she ought to be tested for celiac disease, but my balanced view has
me thinking that the family dog ought to be tested for celiac disease. I
don't know if I will press the doctor for cd testing unless I can find a
stronger link between lipodystrophy and celiac disease. If anyone on the
list has had one, or knows of a connection, I would appreciate hearing
about it.
Thanks, and best wishes,
Ron Hoggan
