Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for all of your responses. I appreciate the time you
took to help me in my quest for rice wrappers. The suggestions I got
are as follows:
1. It seems that Oriental markets are the place to try for these
things. That seems like the most obvious choice, I only wish there were
some close to where I live. I'll try some the next time I get to
Indianapolis (or as we call it here in the sticks, "The Big City").
2. One responder suggested using bean wrappers, but wasn't sure if they
were gluten-free or not.
3. Another suggested making rice chapati (Indian flat bread). Recipes
can be found for this in the Feel Good Food Guide by Deborah Page
Johnson.
4. Many people suggested trying Thai, Chinese, or Vietnamese
restaurants to purchase them or to see if they could suggest where to go
to get them.
5. Banh Trang Spring Roll Wrappers were suggested as a brand that is
good. (also called Galettes de Riz in French)
6. One other poster suggested that using two of the dried wrappers
(that need to be soaked in water first) together is a wise idea to make
them stronger.
7. Everyone seemed to be in agreement that the thinner the wrapper, the
better.
Thanks so much for the suggestions!!! I'll post another follow-up when
I actually find them!!!
Also, I got one response about the Niagra Spray Starch. That poster
didn't have a reaction to it, but did not know if it was gluten-free or
what it is actually made from. If anyone knows about the GF status of
spray starch (for ironing) please let me know.
Thanks a heap,
Robin
