Jim and Group,
Please don't take my comments as a negative but I'm not clear exactly what
you mean by this idea. I realize that it is hard to be subscribed to
multiple lists but one of the things that keeps vicug-l from being one of
the lists I don't filter and do mass deletes on when time is scarce is the
excellent informational content of the list. When you start talking about
things of general interest to folks that are blind I wonder if you aren't
getting into too broad a scope. I guess my initial feeling is that there
are other lists that already have the "this is everything about blindness"
approach and the message traffic gets crazy high on those lists.
I appreciate the desire for a sense of "community" and such that a greater
sharing of information can foster. I guess I'm just not personally certain
that this list is the best vehicle for such development.
I always look to Vicug-l as a first source for quality and uncluttered
information about technology, especially as it relates to blindness. In
that regard this list has proven an invaluable tool for me personally.
Before any expanding of the scope or focus of the list happens I hope folks
will give careful consideration to whether this list is the best place for
that or if the information is already someplace else.
Of course you may simply be asking folks to forward more general interest
items from other lists. As someone who forwards material here I guess I'm
not really qualified to say to others that they shouldn't feel compelled to
do likewise. Again I'd just caution that this list seems to do best with
technology and in my personal opinion a narrowly defined focus is better
than a broad open forum. Lists like Blind-x already exist for that.
Just my electronic opinion,
Kelly
