Karl: I sent this email to the list but it got kicked back
cuz my header was too long for them to deal with. I don't
have the capability from here to make it shorter so I won't
try to resend. If you can, you are free to forward it
to the list.PATRICIA TAFT

Hi Karl:

It's always great to hear of yet another person going
natural. The guys in my office look at me funny when I tell
them to eat meat. For example, one guy comes in bragging about
how much more energy he has working out at the gym with weights
now that he is ingesting protein powder. I told
him to eat meat instead. He looked at me funny. He replied that
he couldn't cuz of the fat that would clog his arteries. I finally
(I thought) convinced him to skip the p. powder. He doesn't eat
much meat though but he comes in telling me each day how he
got his protein: 4 slices a bologna one day (lunch), peanut butter
another, etc. but still loaded down with carbs. One day he told me
all this so called 'meat'
he was now eating was all LOW FAT varieties. I told him he
needed the fat. I'm not too hard on these guys though cuz I was a
vegetarian for 18 years before low carbing in Jan (97).

That's a great weight loss! Maybe you are plateuing cuz your
body is adjusting. I heard from other low carbers
that some will plateau for a month or so then start losing
again. Also, have you increased your water intake? It
seems that many people get their weight loss re-started
by drinking more water.

[I will try to accomidate. At school, there is no source of water on hand
when I need it, so a few hours a day I am "dry." - KM]

I just wanted to lose 5 lbs when I started but gained 10 lbs.
I'm no longer gaining but am on a plateau (since May).

You said we need to eat more to lose more. But I don't think
that works for me. I ate quite a bit compared to pre-low
carbing yet gained. I have been experimenting since Jan.
trying to find what will help me lose. I'm not all that worried
about it though. Not cuz it's only 15 lbs but because I
think I added some lean body mass (muscle tissue) to my body
that I was lacking on my previous low protein/no fat/low, low cal
(~500cals/day) vegetarian diet. And we all know: muscle weighs
more than fat by volume. So I check inches instead. And yes,
I'm getting smaller. not where I want to be yet but low carb
IS working. So check your inches lost while not losing weight.
I bet you'll see a loss there.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. It sounds like
you think celery is not allowed on NeanderThin. It is.
It's a vege that can be eaten raw.

["I mean, celery tastes sort of gross, especially if it dehydrates a
little and gets all limp. The butter makes it taste better. Sort of like
how cookies make milk taste better." - KM]

I don't know off hand. But check the ingredients list.
If all the foods included can be eaten raw then it's okay.

["Yeah, that was my guess, but I know that you can do things to food items
to make them nasty, which is why even no-sugar-added jellies are about as
NeanderThinning as eating a cup full of sugar." - KM]

Sincerely,
PATRICIA TAFT
