Amy, as Sharon and I both know, there are very competent peds GI docs who can
treat your child. You must look-ask-search for one who has special skills and
interests in the type of condition your child has. Not all peds GI docs are
well versed in allergy issues--apparently that is who you hooked up first.
OTOH, there are GI docs who specialize in nutrition issues and even food
allergy issues.
You could try the pediatric allergy specialist route but those folks are also
hit-or-miss regarding food allergies so ask a lot of questions up front before
even scheduling an appointment.
Food allergies and sick babies are extremely frustrating, heartbreaking and
sad. I had a sick baby (hospitalized multiple times for asthma and pneumonia
related to food allergies) for months and docs unskilled at diagnosing and
addressing those problems.
Good luck at Mayo or wherever you decide to go. I do hope you find a skilled
practitioner who can help your baby.
