I just told my friends and they generally accommodate me. They sometimes forget
but we work around it. As for restaurants, I ask the waiter and they are
normally very helpful. They even ask the chef on occasion to help out. As for
catered functions, you're on your own. You have to sample the fare very
carefully. I sometimes take risks but have been known to the pay the price of
imprudence. In my case, I judge the item as best I can. Most prepared foods
have milk in them unfortunately. In a nutshell, just be frank and up-front
about it.
