Hi! Thanks to all who responded. As an added note, Bette Hagman lists many
companies with phone/addresses in the back of her books, also a commercial
product list sold by CSA/USA contains the same. I called several companies for
their catalogues and brochures. One even sent me a loaf of bread to try
(Italian bread from El Peto Products Ltd. 1800-387-4064) that was one of the
best tasting, especially toasted! Following is a list of your responses:

I'd like to recommend a company for you. It's called Miss Roben's.

They may have a web site, but I can't find my most current brochure at
the moment (it's almost 2:30 a.m. -- I just couldn't sleep and thought
I'd check my email). Anyway, they make make a number of premade mixes
and carry Pastariso products, flours, pretzels, xanthan gum, vanilla
beans, et cetera.
I like their angelfood cake mix, pound cake (my husband likes this with
strawberries and milk on it), dinner bread, corn-rice bread mixes, roll
& cut holiday cookie mix, biscuit mix, pizza & pie crust mixes, bread &
batter coating mix (my mom likes this), gingerbread mix (easy for group
gatherings).
P.S. There are many other companies, as I'm sure you already know. One

I have ordered from a few. I especially liked DE-RO-MA in Canada. The foods
from Dr. Schaar and other companies are delicious--not cheap, but the exchange
rate is favorable to Americans now. The products cost less than from other
companies in the States.
I get Foods by George English muffins and flours from Authentic Foods and
Jowar. I like the bean and jowar (sorghum) flour tastes better than rice ones.

I have purchased from Dietary Spec. in Rochester, NY - I especially
like their Corn Bread Mix (2 pkgs. in box), the Bi-Aglut Crackerbreads
and also order pasta from them. From Gluten Free Pantry - love their
bread mixes and also Pancake Mix. From Really Great Food Co. their
bread, pancake mix and have a couple of cookie mixes at home have not
yet tried. Authentic Food makes a terrific chocolate cake and lemon
cake mix. Gillian's Rolls from Bob Otollo in Revere, MA. English
muffins (pricey but I really like) from Foods by George.
I rotate my purchasing - some from Health Food stores close by - but
find that quite often after traveling there they don't have what I
desired but certainly need to support them so they will support us.
The same holds true for the several wonderful small companies which
have sprung up. During last year's UPS strike I am sure that many of
them were affected financially by not being able to service us. For
that reason, I try to spread my business around. When I was first
diagnosed 10 years ago Ener-G was just about the only company around.
Sam was certainly a life-saver for all of us. I know they have expanded
their line but I find there are many fine bread mixes from other
companies which are more palatable than theirs. Hope this helps.

I have been ordering from The Gluten-free Pantry, De-Ro-Ma, and Dietary
Specialties for the past several years. Each of these have a variety of GF
products that are great. De-Ro-Ma is in Canada so there is a savings due to
the exchange rate, it makes up for the shipping cost. They import a large
variety of products from Europe that no one else seems to carry. Their web

I, too, started out ordering from Ener-g foods but found that some of the
items were NOT GF that I got from them! After trying out several other
companies, I find I order mostly from Miss Roben's,

offer some wonderful cookbooks. Happy hunting.
The Gluten Free Pantry is really great. We highly recommend the French
Bread/Pizza mix, the pie crust mix and Jowar Flour for Jowar bread. They
also sell Glutano pretzels. The lemon creme wafers are good too. As
close to the real thing as you can get!
The bakery that I most often get baked goods that are already baked - all
you have to do is eat them is Sterk's Bakery in Vineland, ONtario, Canada
about a half hour north of Niagra Falls 1-800-608-4501.
They suggest you put the baked goods in the freezer to remain fresh.
They have sliced Sandwich bread that takes like homemade when you put it in
the microwave for about 35 min. on high. All kinds of breads, ready made
bagels - blueberry, plain, cinnamon, apple, raisen, etc. - pop in microwave
for about 30 sec. on high - very good! Already made muffins, and pound
cakes - several kinds....great for strawberry shortcake when warmed in
microwave ummm good!! They sell from Oct to Jan 15 for those who like
fruit cake. They have assorted mixes for breads, cake mixes, brownie
mixes, and pancake mixes. They sell rice flour, all purpose flour,
already made pizza crusts, mini pizza plain and ready to serve which I feel
is the closest to real pizza I have tasted. They sell macaroni noodles,
spagetti, and lasagna noodles.....Ralston Sun Flakes and a shake and bake
mix, they sell some cookies (Pamela's cookies still are the best, however)
They also have those great pretsels in the bag that tastes like real
pretsels - wonderful but expensive but I am worth it..... I have been
ordering from them since 1990 and they have been a life saver for me since
I work and don't have much time to bake.

The only mail order company I have tried is Kinnikinnick Foods, email
address [log in to unmask] , ph 403-424-2900, fax 403-421-0456,
mail 10306-112 Street, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada T5K 1N1. However, I'm not
sure if they usually supply to the US yet - I got the impression they were
making an exception for me in Feb. when I was visiting New Jersey but they
said that they had not yet made arrangements for shipping fresh foods that
distance on a regular basis though they had plans to do this in the future
and may have these in place by now.
Of the items I have tried from Kinnikinnick I would especially recommend the
donuts, waffles and muffins (I had the blueberry) - these were all
delicious. The danish (various fillings) were good too but a bit smaller
than I was expecting. The pizza crusts tasted
fine but were a bit thick for my liking and the pasta tri-coloured elbows
were also fine -more or less equal quality to other brands I've tried. The
True Fibre bread was OK but very chewy - better toasted. The only item I
found disappointing and would definitely not order again were the cinnamon
buns - not at all the texture I woud like, quite dry and hard. Overall
though, I was extremely pleased with the quality of what I ordered and with
the service - my order arrived well on time and the staff were exceptionally
friendly and helpful to me on the phone.

Hey just a contribution, but I just ordered a couple of things from the
Gluten Free Pantry that I found to be pretty good. I couldn't believe that
I actually liked the french bread mix and the cake mix was good too. I
have also purchased the favorite sandwich bread mix but haven't tried it

Their English muffins are great and serve as hamburger buns as well. They

When traveling through Canada last summer I really enjoyed some of the

I haven't heard of Tracy's but I do know of wonderful GF pretzels. Dietary
Specialties of N.Y. has them and they taste just like regular pretzels (I'm
not the Celiac in the family and I tend to dislike most of the GF stuff, but
these really are delicious). You can buy them by the bag or by the case. My
two girls love them!
