The New York MTA is looking for a web developer and a webmaster.

Marketing and Corporate Communications

   The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has the following openings
   in the Marketing and Corporate Communications Department:
     * WEB DEVELOPER 
     * WEBMASTER

   WEB DEVELOPER:
   This position will be responsible for all programming for the MTA Web
   Site in HTML, Java, and other programs/ platforms. This includes
   ensuring that the material designed especially for the Web and all
   materials converted from print form appear properly on our Site.
   Developer will also be responsible for putting materials up and taking
   them off of the server so that the Site remains accurate and up to
   date.
   
   RESPONSIBILITIES:
     * Program new materials for Web Site
     * Work with designers to convert print materials to web-ready
       materials
     * Build custom toolsets and create user interfaces
     * Document all Web Site activities
     * Debug, diagnose, and fix problems
     * Help the Webmaster and Creative Services graphic designers put up
       pages that meet internal client needs and customer expectations
       
   DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
     * Ability to program quickly and accurately, as well as the need to
       prioritize projects intelligently
     * Ability to make some design and production decisions
     * Must be a flexible, high-energy person
     * Good human relations skills in dealing with internal clients,
       outside contractors, and general public
     * Creative thinker with problem-solving skills and a genuine
       dedication to producing quality work
       
   EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
     * College degree (or equivalent experience)
     * 1-3 years experience in Web Site design and programming
     * Experience with Unix, C+++, HTML, Java, cgi scripts, web editors,
       and Netscape

   WEBMASTER:
   This position is responsible for all elements of content and design of
   the MTA Web Site. The Webmaster must monitor the Site on a daily
   basis, ensuring that all information presented there is timely and
   accurate. The Webmaster must maintain relationships with the web
   staffs of all MTA agencies to facilitate the addition, removal, and
   modification of materials on the pages. The Webmaster must keep
   abreast of all new developments in Web technologies in order to advise
   and implement new ways of presenting information, gaining revenue from
   the Site, and developing long-term strategies to benefit both the
   audience it serves and the MTA. The Webmaster participates with Senior
   Management in setting policy for the Web Site.
   
   RESPONSIBILITIES:
     * Ensure that the information presented to the public on the Site,
       such as schedules, maps, service disruptions, job postings, etc.,
       is accurate and timely Ð so that the Site provides a useful
       service to our current and prospective customers worldwide
     * Design and continually develop new design solutions for the MTA
       Web Site pages for all agencies, making sure designs meet client
       needs and public expectations
     * Supervise the programming of (as well as program) pages in HTML
       and on the Java platform
     * Stay current with all new and emerging Web technologies and be
       ready to evaluate and implement them as required
     * Develop budget, monitor expenses, and investigate
       revenue-generating opportunities
     * Develop a policy of linking with other sites and implement it
     * Lead team development of custom applications, testing, debugging,
       and database
     * Lead and work closely with the web staffs at all MTA agencies
     * Work closely with Senior Management in setting policy of the Web
       Site
     * Monitor linked TRANSCOM Site that will provide real time travel
       information
       
   DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
     * Advanced knowledge of Web programming and Web Site maintenance
     * Ability to prioritize effectively and to design, program, and
       monitor a variety of projects simultaneously
     * Must be a flexible, high-energy person able to operate with
       minimum supervision
     * Good human relation skills in dealing with internal clients,
       outside contractors, and general public
     * Good communication skills required
       
   EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
     * College degree (or equivalent experience)
     * 2-4 years experience as Webmaster
     * 4-5 years experience in Web Site design and programming
     * 2 years in supervising staff
     * Experience with Unix, C++, HTML, Java, cgi scripts, web editors,
       and Netscape
