That's assuming that predatory behavior is more evolved than compassion.
Snakes, alligators and other reptiles are very predatory and have very
little social life (caring for offspring; forming communities; caring for
their sick members, etc.) -- the reptile brain is 'eat, f*ck, sleep.'
Sharks haven't evolved much for millions of years, because they're the
perfect killing machine.
It's only when you start getting more complex brains that you get social
animals and more complex behavior.
So, the 'predatory behavior = more evolved' equation falls flat on its
face, IMO.
