The March 1, 1998/Volume 57, Number 5 issue of American Family Physician
has an excellent article titled "Detecting Celiac Disease in Your
Patients". It is addressed to physicians describing what celiac is, how
varied the symptoms are, how widespread it is and how often it is
mis-diagnosed. It is an excellent overview but most of all it points
out to doctors how to recognize celiac when patients tell their
histories and it recommends blood test screenings before pursuing other
expensive tests for patient's symptoms or laboratory abnormalities.
Further, this Listserv and it's files are the first resources given.
Many doctors that I've come across on this list are in the references.
I highly recommend finding and reading the article. It is certainly a
good thing to show doubtful doctors to educate them.
