Just when you think you have your medical conditions understanded, you hear
the words "Gee that's odd, we are not sure what to make of that" Sound
familiar? Well my latest test included and MRI with contrast this morning due
to months of double vision, headaches, erratic test results on a visual field
test at the eye doctor and irregular menstrual cycle. Seems they wanted to
rule out a brain tumor or pituitary growth- thank god they did npt find
either of these conditions, but I knew my condition can never seem to be an
easy one, so when my Doctor reported "we did find something curious" of
course I was not surprised. Been there, done that! Anyway, seems the scans
picked up something called "non specific white matter signal abnormalities-
which is kind of like snowflakes in my brain- I am told this could mean
something yet can also mean absolutely nothing (very comforting huh?) So
once again, I turn to the experiences and endless knowledge of my fellow
celiacs. I will be reviewing this with a neurologist as well as discussing it
with Dr. Green who is my GI Celiac Specialist that many in our area swear by.
I am hoping he will know of some connection or reason for these appearences.
So far, the possibilities I have heard range from MS (although unlikely as a
definite pattern would be present in the spots ), Lymes Disease, and now an
intersting reply from a Neurologist friend of the family, who is quite
familar with CD and thinks it can have something to do with a Vitamin B or
Vitamin E deficiency where due to the malabsorption, the body attackes some
of the nerves (or something like that). Anyway, never a dull moment or a
frustrating one. So if you have any insights, words of wisdom or just words
of encouragement from a fellow medical mystery who is also fed up with being
an interesting case study, please send a PRIVATE e-mail to [log in to unmask]
I am also beginiing to think their shoul dbe a large data base where you can
plug in your symptoms and have the medical geniouses of the world send you
back an e-mail medical research report telling you what you have and what you
need to do about it (Someone's probably beaten me to this idea, I'm sure). It
would go something like this:
Enter: Double Vision, Irregular Periods, Sporatic Stomach Pains, Snowflakes
on the Brain, Easilt Tires, Low Ferritin Level, Light Headiness, Headaches,
Difficulty Staying Asleep
Results: Mystery Illness Blah Blah Blah or at least "Need Vacation, TLC and A
Million$) :)
