Check out Richard Lewanton (or Lewantin, keep varying the
spelling into you get it right) for the low-down on genetics.  Genes
exist, that is known.  But geneticists tend to treat a gene like a
theologen treats a "soul."  In fact, Mendal fakes his results to refute
Darwin.  How the two got mixed up is anyone's guess.  Sometime next year
a book will be out by Philip Marsh.  While geneticists in Russia were
experementing with fruit flies, Lysanko was -feeding the people.-  True,
he was feeding them things against the NeanderThin diet, but that is
totally irrevent to the fact that the man was a genious who -saved- Russia.
        His son was captured by the Nazi's in let go.  In NKVD terms, the
whole family is a traiter.  If you survived, the NKVD did not take
chances.  You're a traiter, and your whole family is deported and/or
exterminated.  Lysanko, although his own son was captured and let go, was
not touched.  Even though Lysanko outranked Stalin, we have to keep in
mind how unusual this is.  Perhaps Lysanko was too valuable to dispose
of.  (The odds are that his son was a spy against the Nazi's, and that's
why Lysanko survived).
