Quick post to tell you about my experience last Friday. After many years
of bugging these guys to test my son for celiac disease we finally go in
for his biopsy last Friday. I thought I had finally gotten thru to the GI
Dr. and was doing a good job educating my GP. Just as the GI walked in he
took one look at David and said " Look how he has grown in the last few
years...he obviously isn't celiac..we are probably waisting our time" I
had to leave, I felt like strangling him on the spot. Do I now have to
bring up info off the 'net to give to my GI specialist!!!? I realize an
MD cannot be educated and updated on all diseases. Thats why I picked a
sweet natured young GP to be our family Doc. and educated and updated him
gently on celiac disease. But a Gastroenteroligist???? I don't
understand. I his Mother am celiac..biopsy-diagnosed. I have 3
children..2 have never shown any signs of celiac, 1 has many signs and we
used to get sick together often before I was diagnosed. The problem is
the medical proffession is still stuck with the image of the 3 year old
skinny kid with the pot belly as being the only celiac. Shouldn't at
least the specialists be up to date? Sorry to be so wordy.
