>> In a classic case of media manipulation, CNNs Larry King Live helped
>> propagate the cause of the Kosovo refugees this evening. During the LKL
>> show, Mr. King broke away for what was to be interpreted as a live report
>> from Kukes, Albania with Christiane Amanpour. This report was aired at
>> approximately 9:20 PM EST, which in turn would be 3:20 AM in Kukes.
>> Amazingly, in a feat of mythic proportions, the sky behind Amanpour was a
>> brilliant blue, somehow evading the typical night time scene expected of a
>> 3:20 AM report. Nonetheless, Mr. King acted as if he were asking Amanpour
>> the questions, and she acted as if she was answering them.

>But CNN replays these reports multiple times in a day. Larry King is
>repeated multiple times. They don't do the show over again each
>time. By now I think most people know that.

What Dan is referring to a LIVE airing of Larry King Live, not a repeat.
There is a reason why they call it Larry King *Live*.

>> During the course of her report, she mocked the Serbs cease fire by
>> stating that, "With our cameras trained over the border we were able
>> to see men in white masks, with cans of gasoline. These cans of
>> gasoline were then tossed over, or thrown on the houses, and then
>> ignited with a torch or a match." She proceeded to leave the
>> impression that the evil, barbaric Serbs had already broken their
>> promise of cease-fire.

>You're calling her a liar. But regardless of whether she was
>reporting what she saw or mocking the Serbs, you are giving the
>impression that the Serb cease-fire should not be mocked. You are
>giving the impression that we ought to respect the Serbs for offering
>to stop ethnic cleansing long enough to celebrate Easter. You don't
>see that as a mockery.

She was saying that the Serbs already broke the cease fire before it ever
came into a effect. If that's not a lie, at least it is a distortion of reality

Stopping ethnic cleansing and bombing during a holiday sounds like a
mockery? Mockery of what? Maybe peace?
Well sure, but bombing and ethnic cleansing people is already a mockery of that.

If anything, it is saying, for at least a while, can we not kill others?
Now that's a mockery of war.

>> With common sense and even a skeletal knowledge of the situation, it
>> was frighteningly obvious that the report had been taped earlier in
>> the day prior to the 8:00 PM deadline of the Serb cease-fire, and
>> then replayed to appear as a live broadcast, many hours after the
>> cease-fire had been enacted.

>Why don't you ask CNN for the actual times? When was the report
>actually filmed? What were the times it was aired. When was the
>cease-fire scheduled to start? Local time or GMT? When did the
>cease-fire actually start?

He is talking about Christiane's report that must of been down earlier then
8:00 pm because the sun was still high in the sky. It was aired on American
tv after 9:00, giving the impression that the cease-fire had already came
into affect and Christiane was reporting to Larry that the Serbs already
violated their agreement, even though her report was down hours ago(before
the cease-fire came into affect).

>> Once again, CNN is guilty of omitting the truth in order to
>> propagate what seems to be a pro-Kosovar Albanian agenda, and
>> continuing to demonize the Serbs. It is this hidden media
>> editorialization that is helping drive the increased public furor
>> over the situation in Kosovo.
>
>Are the Serbs in the field actually being demons? Or not? I mean
>NATO and the western media demonize them, and the Serb media portray
>them as victims of NATO bombing and the KLA, who want the Albanians to
>invite the Albanians to come stay in the homes of Serb families. Are
>they behaving as demons or not?

That question can be asked of all sides. Is the KLA acting like demons? Is
NATO acting like demons?

The answer is the same for all three questions.

I am a little surprised by your response here. It seems a similar thing
happened when Solomon wrote that article critical of corp. press.

Are you defending corp. press because you think they deserve your open
support, or is it more like your playing the devil's advocate?
