Hey, There was an interesting article in I believe the American Journal
of Physiology (Hmmmmm, hope I'm right.) on the induction of
interleukin-1 in hypomagnesemia.  Hypomagnesemia can result or be
exacerbated with diarrhea associated with malabsorption syndromes as
seen in celiac-like disorders.  The point being low magnesium can be an
alarm for the immune system resulting in untoward symptoms and signs.
