Its their fish breath that keeps me from having it...
The lactose also varies with time of year in most places eg lots of calves
in spring say. And manufacturers often fortify their products with milk
powder (50%+ lactose) at certain times of year, so the lactose level can
vary enormously.
The lactose in a particular milking varies a lot too. In most mammals the
fore milk has heaps of lactose but little fat and as the teat/breast is
milked the milk has more fat and very little lactose. So if you lose the
first milk that you milk then skim the rest, you can have very low lactose
milk.
